Artist member since 2019
TORONTO, Ontario
Marilu Rivera is a contemporary, self-taught artist born on August 24 th , 1991 in Oaxaca, Mexico. She started painting in 2011, and her artwork “Hunters” was the piece that made her decide to pursue being a painter. She studies “Criticism and Curatorial Practices” at Ontario College of Art and Design University. Marilu’s vision is influenced by the contrast between growing up in a small town full of important traditions, and later moving to a multicultural city where each culture has its unique way of portraying its identity. Her main subject is life and the challenges that come with it. She works mainly on canvas using various mediums.
Marilu lives and has her studio in Toronto close to the lake where she likes to go and gather ideas for new paintings. Nothing inspires her more than the flow of nature.
